Let your Answer be Yea or Nay Assuredly—R Fritz

Say what you mean and mean what you say. That is what we should always do. There are people who think they can say anything they want without any consequences. Matthew 5:37 says and this is Jesus, speaking “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”  We can say yes, then the words we say after that negate that yes. Your oath is your bond. The Pharisees and the teachers in the old Testament were experts at keeping the letter of the law. They were looked up to as experts at obedience. The letter of the law was not good enough. Jesus says “our righteousness should exceed that of the Pharisees or ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven” in Matthew 5:20. This verse talks about not killing somebody with our hands and what people do not understand is killing their spirit with our words is just as bad. We have to be better than technically innocent of murder. If you make a vow, we must keep it. It is common to make oaths or vows to show how serious we are. The problem comes when we cannot meet that obligation by swearing to God and not meaning that at the time you made the vow. You decided you are not going to live up to that vow or oath for whatever excuse you want to say. Your word should be your promise or a contract that should not be broken. All you say is yes or no with no words after that.

One of the things I tell people is that they need to pray and keep on praying for God to give you your answer. That also applies to me also. Somebody told me of a possible divorce. It concerned me immensely. I prayed immediately and went about my day. A day later when I went to bed, I prayed till I fell asleep, when I woke up in the middle of the night, I prayed again until I fell asleep. Luke 11: 9-10 says and this is Jesus, speaking “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”  We need to keep praying. Sometimes God tests us to see our trust in him. We need to believe God is going to answer our prayer or why should we pray. When we continue praying, it says you believe God will answer our prayer.

This brings me to today where God gave me the title for this blog. What people do not understand is my answer is in the Bible. It is in Matthew 5:31-32. I mention this for 2 reasons. The first one is many people believe that God does not answer their prayer. The second was God wanted to talk about our words and how important they are, how they can kill somebody’s spirit, kill your marriage or it can bring life to somebody that is having a bad day or somebody that is depressed. We choose every morning who we will be that day. Our heart, whether hard and stony or pliable and our past issues will show people who we are spiritually.

We have the ability to speak life and death to people every day. Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” We have a choice every day how we will proceed. We can wake up and be angry and take it and show it to everybody or we can overcome that anger and show “love” to everybody we talk to. Our heart (our feelings) dictates what comes out of our mouth. We have to control our tongue, so people see the “Jesus” (Holy Spirit) in us. Luke 6:45 says and this is Jesus, speaking “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of the heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” What is in our heart (what or how we feel) will eventually come out. This is why people who were hurt or are still hurting will speak that hurt out in negative words or will lash out at you.

They need the Holy Spirit to be able to tame their tongue. James 3:5-8, 10, 16-17 says “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents and of things in the sea, is tamed and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. For where envying and strife is there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be treated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”  Too many people think they can and have the freedom to say what they please without any consequences. They can in no way control their tongue. They apparently do not know what the bible says. The “Word of God” is perfectly clear. It also shows where there is envying and strife, there is confusion. Where confusion exists, Satin is in control. When we hear people talk, we should discern if they speak with wisdom from above which is the last sentence underlined. When we speak, our words should be “first pure (clean), peaceable, gentle, ready to obey, filled with compassion and good fruits, being impartial, and not being hypocritical. This is wisdom from God through the Holy Spirit. Jesus and the Holy Spirit helps us decide who we will be. If you have the Holy Spirit, our outlook on life changes. We can have issues but overcome them through the Holy Spirit. Matthew 12: 36-37 says “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by the words thou shalt be condemned.”  “Every” word we speak will be judged on Judgement day. You had better be sure your words are righteous. One thing I know is with the Holy Spirit and letting it operate in you, the right words will be the words coming out of your mouth. You will be judged on them. Know assuredly that with the Holy Spirit, you can overcome the words Satan wants us to speak. God Bless!
