Can our Will be Overruled by God—R Fritz

We need to understand what the term “free will” really means biblically. It is the ability to choose. We were given the ability to choose everything in our life by God. We can choose good and evil. We can choose sin or righteousness. We have to choose God or we will always be in our sin nature. We were born in our sin nature, that was not our choice. That came from Adam and his choice. Our conscience is our moral compass and will show us good from evil. We were created in God’s image, like him. Genesis 1:27 says “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” We were created with the same nature as him in his likeness.

Sin was the start for us to lose some of the knowledge of God and believing the lies from Satan. Moses needed law or rules to live by because people were choosing to do whatever they thought was right, with sin being their master instead of God. God supplied the law or rules on tablets to Moses. Moses eventually wrote the first 5 books of the Bible. Animals were the sin offering until Jesus came as the last sin offering. Jesus came to take our punishment for sin which was death. While Jesus was living on earth, he taught everybody how to overcome sin through him.

The answer is Jesus Christ and knowing him through the Bible through his teachings. When Jesus died, the Holy Ghost was sent to teach us all things to those that were going to follow and obey him. Hebrews 10:14 says “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified (made holy). Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.” Jesus wrote the laws in our heart and mind with the Holy Ghost being with us. It is hard to say I do not know his rules, commandments, morality when it is written in our heart and mind.

It really gets to whether we trust God, believe Jesus Christ and have let the Holy Spirit teach us and be our conscience or we are believing in ourselves, like most of the world. It is a matter of being different than most Christians and following Jesus with all our heart. Those that love Jesus obey Jesus. I understand that some people are not where they need to be with Jesus. I been there, but you should be making progress to be able to do what the Holy Spirit may ask of you. Jesus explains who the people are who love him in John 14:21 and it says “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” It gets back to our choice. We can say I do not have time to do what Jesus asks and come with excuses. Remember you are talking to God. He sees and knows all. Jesus looks at your heart for answers.

I started to discern what was going on with a friend of mine. Let me say this, everybody can choose what they want to do. If you are expecting things to change without obeying God, Good Luck. It is not going to happen. We wonder why things are not going very good in our life. It happens by disobeying. Satan gets to have fun at our expense. It does not take Satan much energy to keep you under his thumb. I started to believe that God could not move my friend. I have never felt that way in my life. I was concerned for him.

The Holy Spirit was sent to show us the way to heaven in all things we do. We are not going to make it without the Holy Spirit. It is our conscience, spiritual advisor, Bible teacher. It gives us the understanding to interpret the Bible because the Bible is spiritually discerned. 1Corinthians 2:12-14 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” If we are not spiritually discerning the Bible, we are using our own knowledge to interpret it.

The Holy Spirit gives us the ability to know God’s ways and nature. When we have the Holy Spirit and do not follow the Holy Spirit, we grieve the Holy Spirit when we stop following him and follow our flesh. Once we know God and know his nature and we go back to listening to ourself more than the Holy Spirit. We are telling God we do not need him and believe we know more than God. This is our disobedience and pride rising up. The Holy Spirit will let you do it your way. Over time, you might notice the Holy Spirit going quiet. It is time to humble ourselves and repent for our sin.

We have to remember we have a living God. One that knows all, understands our issues and knows how to fix us when we have been hurt mentally and physically. We just need to come humbly to him in prayer or call out to him. He needs to know you want him to help you. Remember for years you wanted to do it your way and you trusted in you. When we give our will to the Holy Spirit that choice gives us freedom and liberty because the Holy Spirit lets us know when something is wrong.

Eternal life is a benefit for trusting in Jesus Christ. If we look at all the blessings God has given us, we should be thankful. Every day we can see what our God wants for us to see, he is constantly trying to get our attention. We just need to pay attention. We are truly blessed. God Bless.
