The Choice is Ours whether We Ask the Holy Spirit for Help in Our Life—R Fritz
We might have the Holy Spirit but we are still in control until we decide to surrender our will. The Holy Spirit will not take over our body. When we chose Jesus, we gave permission for the Holy Spirit to be in us. That was not permission to control us nor ever take over our body. What we do not understand is if we would surrender it all we would have success in life. We would be all God wanted us to be because God knows exactly who we are going to become. The choice is ours what we want out of life and what we are going to give God. If we are going to do just enough to get by, we probably are not going to need nor ask the Holy Spirit for anything. I am referring to those who want to know the Holy Spirit because we love God.
We need a reason to change what we are doing nobody loves to change. The reason we change is we are sick of where we are or how our life is going, it is about us. That was where I was at many years ago. What changes me now is if God shows me something that needs to be changed, my motive is how I love my God. We need to ask the Holy Spirit for help, it is us communicating that we cannot do it ourself with the expectation the Holy Spirit will give us what we need. It is us changing our thinking that we cannot do it ourself after whatever we are trying to do is not working out. It is us being frustrated, that is where God wants us to get knowing we will ask for help at some point.
When we refuse the help, we think we are better than God and do not need him, this is pride showing. We have to be careful pride does not inflate our ego and we see ourself looking for attention from other people frequently. It is the I or me attitude. Galatians 6:3 says “For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.” Humility is what God wants to see. Jesus is our savior, it had nothing to do with us. We are supposed to thank God for everything not thank ourself. Pride steals our joy. We steal our own success in life not asking and doing what the Holy Spirit wants us to do, it is following what we know instead of God. Our results will always be the same if we do not change and believe in God.
What is interesting is the Holy Spirit told me I would help start business with people a few months back. I did not ask any questions, figured the Holy Spirit would let me know. A short time later somebody I know asked for my help to start their business knowing I was retired. I was no expert in this field but am a person that can do almost everything. It is a people business dealing with people and have been struggling with this and just like I teach people it came to me one morning I cannot do this myself. I said to the Holy Spirit “You told me I would help build business, I tried this and cannot do it myself. I need your help.” We have seen some of the issues and are in the process of changing these issues. It seems I have to go through things so I can teach others. I was just obeying the Holy Spirit. I know I cannot do certain things myself and surrender to the Holy Spirit. God uses other people to give me advice and I hear through the words these people speak, these words that are from God to me.
If God gives us something to do, he is not going to let us fail. Along the way we will go through things but God is in control. What we go through makes us into the person God wants us to be, this refined person who God wants to remove the things in us that we do not need or require, baggage that needs to go. 1 Peter 1:7 says “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” Our trials are precious when tried by fire (through the Holy Spirit). The trials we are put through give us more wisdom and give us an opportunity to communicate and raise our relationship with the Holy Spirit. We learn to trust the Holy Spirit. Although we do not like the trials, they are part of our life.
The process of tried by fire is a process done with gold and silver to remove the dross (waste). Malachi 3:3 says “And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.” Jesus will be the refiner and purifier of us.
I read a story about some people studying Malachi and wanting to understand the process of refining silver. One of the people called a silversmith and made a appointment to watch the silversmith at work. As this person watched the silversmith, the silversmith held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. The silversmith explained that in refining silver, you need to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were the hottest as to burn away all the impurities. This person thought about God holding us in such a hot spot and about the verse in Malachi that God sits as a refiner and purifier of silver. This person asked the silversmith if it was true that they had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was refined. The silversmith answered “yes” and explained that you not only sit there to hold the silver but had to keep your eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left even a moment too long in the flames, it would be damaged. This person was silent for a moment. Then this person asked the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?” The silversmith smiled and answered, “Oh, that is easy. When I see my image in it.”
Now we see why God the refiner chooses to turn up the heat on us. It is a process where God through the Holy Spirit is completely involved making sure the heat is where it is needed to make us and our life righteous until God can see his image in us. God is always in control and we can trust him.
We can go through the trials ourselves or we can ask the Holy Spirit what we need to do. The Holy Spirit knows everything about us. It is our choice to ask for help from the Holy Spirit. God Bless.
