Our Father knows Best—R Fritz
We all have an earthly father. They might not have been the best at being the father we wanted. Some did not even want to be that father. If we are to be a father, it requires words and actions to match. Fathers require us to be many things to our children such as a teacher, rule maker, discipliner, showing us God’s love, being positive, showing the difference between right and wrong, being respectful and being the example for our children to follow. Our example eventually turns to Jesus who was sent for us to follow. If we do not know Jesus it is hard to teach the righteous way. We usually follow what our parents did for us. If it was not a good outcome, we changed some things hoping for a better outcome. One thing I learned was we need to understand our children and their personality, then to find out what works in all aspects of our children’s life. That is our responsibility to know our children. Ephesians 6:4 says “And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition (gentle reproof) of the Lord.” We are to help our children by showing the ways of the Lord.
We must be careful with discipline as we can force our children to rebel. Having that relationship with the Holy Spirit gives us God’s wisdom and understanding to produce ideas to lead our children through discipline into a life with our Father in heaven through our relationship where we are disciplined. Our love should be supplied as a father. The love we know plus adding God’s love gives us wisdom. Knowing God’s character gives us a heads up on what we are expected to be and how we should act. Colossians 3:14-17 says “And above all these things put on charity (love), which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your heart. To the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” All we do should be done thinking about Jesus and thanking God.
The Bible shows Jesus talking about the Father through the Bible. That is to show the relationship between a father and son. It was to show how our relationship between father and son works. John 5:30-31 says, and this is Jesus speaking “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.” Jesus made sure everything went through the Father and Jesus was showing he had given up his will and was operating with the Father’s will. That is what we are supposed to do. Jesus takes the opportunity to show us what is expected and how we live.
We should honor our father whether they did us wrong or not, it is one of the ten commandments, therefore if our father did us wrong it should be up to us to forgive them. Ephesians 6:2 says, “Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” We need to look for the good we had as a child, there must be something. Our childhood should have taught us about love. That love should be a part of our life now. Our childhood should have made us who we are today and been a building block for who we have become. What the Holy Spirit has said to me is because of my childhood and the fear that I had is what kept me safe. Fear kept me from doing the things God did not want me to do. I look back at the things I may have missed out on and understand why God let fear stop me. It was because I would have been led down a different path, one that he did not want me going down.
My Father in heaven had his hand in my life early in my life. This is something revealed to me in the last year. God chose me a long time ago, he just had to let life put me into a place where I needed God. He knows us and our future. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” God gives us the thoughts for his expected end, we just need to accept those thoughts and follow where these thoughts take us. That is where trust comes in believing this is God’s plan. God gives us thoughts from the Holy Spirit, we might not know that because we thought our thoughts come from us only but the Holy Spirit lives in us and gives us thoughts along with Satan who does not live in us. These thoughts must be discerned and rightly divided.
Our Father in heaven knows all, knows who we are and who we will become. Our earthly parents brought us into this world and tried to give us the tools to be successful in life. When we find the truth about Jesus, we can live our life for Jesus with the Holy Spirit giving the thoughts, wisdom and understanding to be the person God has meant for each one of us to be and to have a great life on earth as well as in eternity in God’s kingdom. Happy Father’s Day. God Bless.
