We are Supposed to be God’s Friends and Sons and Daughters—R Fritz
God called us to be part of his family. He is going to look after those he calls friends or family. Romans 8:14 says “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. He loves everybody but our choices make us his family. He has given us gifts, and abilities, but we sometimes think only of ourselves. God has given us our life, but we still have not chosen him or if we have, we do not want to know him in an intimate way. He wants to be personal with his love. I get it we are a little standoffish because he is God and we do not know him. What do we do as humans? We get to know him because he came to earth as a human. We are fearful of God because we do not know him. I get it because I was fearful of God, but I did something most people would not do. I studied the bible to find out who God was, but God wants us to know him, so he gives us his understanding to find out more. We must show some interest, he will let us find out, but we must want to find him.
It goes with everything associated with God. Jesus spoke in parables, so his people knew what he was talking about. Matthew 13:10-14 says, and this is Jesus, speaking, And the disciples came, and said unto him, why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, “Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore, speak I to them in parables because they are seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:” Those that choose Jesus and are studying and have a relationship with the Holy Spirit are given the mysteries of heaven and those that do not will not know what is spoken or will not understand. It is those that the words were meant for that will understand. We have people who were not meant to hear things and are trying to interpret God’s word where the interpretation was given through the Holy Spirit to us.
The Holy Spirit was given to all those who know Jesus and obey. We need to make a choice to surrender our will every day to have a relationship where the Holy Spirit uses us to build his kingdom. That choice is made whenever the Holy Spirit asks us to do something. It is that decision that makes us friends with Jesus. John 15:13 says and this is Jesus, speaking “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” Friends with Jesus come with benefits but also some things that come because the world hated Jesus, it will hate us, and the consequences for that. The death of Jesus brought the Holy Spirit that would be our teacher and would teach us all things. It would live inside of us and we could do greater work. That is the Holy Spirit in us that will give us the ability to do greater things. Jesus speaks to us about the Father that dwelleth in him. John 14:10,12 says, and this is Jesus, speaking “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the father, and the father in me: or else believe me for the very works sake. Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.” Jesus talks about the Father being in him so that we can do greater things because the Holy Spirit will come and dwell in us. The Holy Spirit gives us the opportunity to be all God meant us to be.
Laying our life down for a friend, that is love. How many of us are willing to do that? Only our God would do that, He sent himself as Jesus to give up his life, so we did not have to, for our sins. God had to show us what his love was so we could understand. God gave us his love so we can live that every day of our lives. We need to show that to people we see every day even though our life has all kinds of issues going on. We could not do it before we chose the Holy Spirit but with the Holy Spirit that is what changed our life. We do not even know what we can do because we have not asked the Holy Spirit what our limit is. The verse above says we can do greater things.
Who are we, do we know? I want everybody to think about first, who we want to be, and second, as we know with the Holy Spirit, we can be that person to help build God’s kingdom so what am I supposed to do? God has a plan for each of us, but we must trust him because fear will show up. The Holy Spirit will give us the ability to overcome. I can tell you this from my experiences, this will happen if we want it to happen. The Holy Spirit has all the tools for us to overcome what Satan will throw at us. We must want this. God Bless.
