What is Our Temperature on God’s scale of Cold to Hot—R Fritz
How do we really feel about God? It shows in our actions and our demeanor each day. We all have bad days but what are we truly made of? Do we want to do things for Jesus, or do we want to follow the world? It is doing what most people do or doing the opposite of what most people do that shows where we are and whether we are listening to the Holy Spirit. Too many people are doing what we think God wants us to do. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” When we try to do what we think God wants us to do it is foolish. If we are not doing what God wants it does not matter what we do even if it looks good. The thing we all can do is show love to each other, that we cannot go wrong.
God is looking at our temperature whether we are hot looking forward to when God needs us or cold, we just go about living our life without even talking to God or the Holy Spirit. There is also lukewarm where we are afraid to share their faith. We might go to church but not talk about it. We are missing the relationship with the Holy Spirit or do not know of the Holy Spirit. Whatever temperature we are at is because of our choices, we can turn up the heat at any time. Revelations 3:15-16 says, and this is Jesus, speaking “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.” It sounds like Jesus wants no part of lukewarm. Those who are lukewarm have lost their energy, we are living our old life or have not made that decision to follow Jesus. We are living our lives for ourselves as the world still looks good enough. We have not been knocked back far enough nor can see where we are. Satan does a good job at showing us we are doing okay until we see exactly where we are, we keep doing what we have done with no changes.
What we do after we have made a commitment to Jesus is seen by Jesus. Our works (the things we have done for or not done for Jesus) will be acknowledged and shown at the great white throne judgment. Revelation 20:11-12,15 says “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened:
and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire” What this says is our name must be in the Book of Life. This is where we will be judged once and for all. We have a say in what is written in the Book of Life through our actions and words.
Do we believe if we obey or disobey does that matter, it should? Can we do what we want, yes is the answer. Many people have forgotten the words we have spoken to God when we made a choice for Jesus. It requires we repent for our sins, and I hope anybody who makes a mistake asks God through the Holy Spirit to forgive us. To repent means to turn from. Our God loves every one of us, but our free will gives us the right to do what we want. God wanted us to choose him freely, which meant we chose Jesus by words and actions, which was the first thing we had to do. Choosing him was just the start of our new life and decision with him. The world wants to take Jesus out of our life steal our lives and lose the reason we chose Jesus. We must be careful because we become “lukewarm” because Satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy us. John 10:10 says and this is Jesus, speaking “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” We need to know our enemy by reading about Satan (the devil) in the Bible. The other thing I asked the Holy Spirit to teach me to know his tricks or schemes. Our thoughts are affected, and we accept Satan’s thoughts as ours.
I choose to give God my best time first thing in the morning with prayer and conversation. That time spent gives me a temperature change to hot and wanting to see what the Holy Spirit has for me. We choose our temperature each day or any time so faith without works is dead. If we have faith, it requires us to take action and work. Faith requires works that are evidence of our faith. James 2:21-22,24 says “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” Faith gives us confidence in where our work will follow. This changes our temperature from lukewarm to hot and keeps us hot and excited.
When we have done what God has asked us to do and when we have done all we can do words will be spoken unto us. Matthew 25:21 says, and this is Jesus, “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the lord.” This will be spoken to God’s people who were faithful with works. The other thing that could be said to us by God is “I never knew you.” Why would God say that to us? It was because we had no relationship with God and did not follow his rules. Matthew 7:21-23 says, and this is Jesus, speaking “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, have we not prophesied in my name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me ye that work iniquity (lawlessness). These people used Jesus’s name but had no authority to use it and he never knew them. These are not God’s people, they certainly thought they were.
We need to look at where we are in our walk with Jesus, are we the good and faithful servants or the ones who did work but had no relationship with God? We must have both a relationship and faith with work. Knowing what we need to do is an opportunity to hear from God “Well done good and faithful servant.” Let us take a hard look at ourselves and our temperature and become hot for Jesus. God Bless.
