When We Look in the Mirror What Will We See—R Fritz
Do we take the time to look at ourselves and what is happening in our lives? God has a way of showing us things we do not see in our life. Why? God is trying to communicate with us, we are not looking or paying attention. That is on us. It is not just the bad things; it is also the things we did not do that left us where we are. The mirror gives us that opportunity, but most people will not take that long hard look. God has another way, it is us who see our problem in other people, in my case it was fear twenty years ago. I saw fear in many people around me and was reminded God was showing me that what I saw in other people was mirroring myself. What I saw in other people was my issue, which was a lesson one of many I learned that I could teach other people. What I saw about a couple of weeks ago was somebody telling me that I was not seeing their point and then calling me names when I saw their point, but I was the mirror, the Holy Spirit in me, showing them, they were talking about themselves. James 1:23 says “For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass (mirror): For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he is not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
They never saw God’s truth; just their truth, they were just unhappy with me. That is what happens when we live our lives with our understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Some people think they can handle life by themselves with their understanding and wisdom. Over twenty years of knowing the Holy Spirit, I would not want to live life by myself without God. I saw how life was before Jesus, with Jesus we have peace and joy even though some days now are not my best.
We have a purpose given by God that changes our life. Our heart changes with God’s love, it becomes who we are. These are changes we should have started in our life and are still in the process where our purpose and God’s love will change us as we live till death, it is not a one-and-done with us as we are living with a mind that the Holy Spirit gives truth and wisdom. God’s truth and wisdom, it is constantly changing us sometimes very slowly very fast. The information given to us helps us with life and the people we are supposed to talk to. Just because we do not want to do something does not mean God does not put people before us to talk to, it is the shining of our light through the Holy Spirit. People are looking for something better when they see us and hear us tell the wonderful things God has done for us. They are watching intently everything about us, they see something they want and are checking it out. We all have a story of how we got from hearing about Jesus, to how we got to where we are now.
The Holy Spirit is part of us but will not overpower us and our will. We have a choice every day who oversees our will, if we surrender and let the Holy Spirit be in charge, our lives will change. If we are still in charge how does the Holy Spirit give us his benefits in the Spirit? Galatians 22-25 says “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (enduring), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (self-control): against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” We will see who we are by the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to do the things we could not do before spiritually. God’s word is spiritually discerned with God’s truth in us, we just ask him.
Do we want more of the Spirit or stay where we are? Why did we choose Jesus? These are questions we should ask ourselves. Whatever the answer is, it will affect our lives either way we go. John 3:30-31 says “He must increase, But I must decrease. He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.” Our goal should be to be more like Jesus which means we need more of the Holy Spirit and less of the earthly me.
If we do not want more of the Holy Spirit, we will not overcome sin because our enemy Satan is looking to make life more miserable for us. 1 Peter 6-8 says “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Bo sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” Satan is walking around looking who he can intimidate or lie to, that is what he does. The answer is to be humble cast our cares, the things we are praying about, to Jesus and let him fight our battle for us.
The battle is won or lost in the Spirit.
When I say we need to look into the mirror we think of the mirror in our house which God can use. The mirror that shows our flaws or what we need to change is the Holy Spirit which is used by somebody else and can show exactly what he wants us to see. We just need to listen to the Holy Spirit; he wants us to hear. God Bless.
