Why We Need to Know Suicide Before It Affects Us—R Fritz
Suicides were over Fifty thousand in 2023, the highest number ever. We need to think about the number of deaths and how it affects us. It probably does not if we do not know somebody who attempted suicide or especially somebody who tried and succeeded in suicide. That devastates families for a long time, sometimes years. Most people probably do not even hear about suicides because families usually do not publicize them. That is the problem because people do not want to talk about suicide because they feel they have failed but the more we talk about suicide the more we can stop it from happening. It is us educating ourselves on what suicide victims say and do before they attempt suicide. It is going to a suicide prevention class or sponsoring one at a location where people get a chance to understand why people are thinking of suicide.
Suicide has to do with their life and how they perceive how life is going. Every situation can be different depending on each person’s life, their age, and their circumstances. There are several reasons such as having stage four cancer and wanting their family to get life insurance, being old and thinking they are being a burden on the rest of their family, or they cannot handle the pain anymore after time spent dealing with it. These are spiritual issues that most people do not see as such. The spiritual issue is our thoughts and believing what we hear and accept as truth. Because our life is not going well and our life is not what we would want we believe it will never change, we give up and let the negative thoughts become our life. God does not give us those thoughts; he believes we can do great things. We give up doing the things we need to do such as praying because we are focused on ourselves instead of Jesus. If we have a relationship with the Holy Spirit, we have forgotten him and made ourselves our God. That is what happens when we put ourselves before God. How do we get to that point? We have forgotten who we are as well as who God is and where God is supposed to be in our life, first. We all need to examine our lives and find out where God is in our lives. Mark 12:30 says “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. The question to ask is who comes first and what are we supposed to give to God? We are supposed to give all to God!
We are trying to overcome by ourselves leaving God out as well as our family and friends. Satan overwhelms us and our thoughts, we need help from other people and God, and we cannot do it ourselves. It still comes down to getting our thoughts in line with God and giving all our problems to God after battling with them and not winning or overcoming those issues. We are using our wisdom to battle spiritual issues, something we do not understand. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” When we do not trust the LORD, we lose the relationship we have, and we do not hear or know when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. That is the choice we have made. That does not mean the Holy Spirit has left us because he still tries to communicate with us by other means such as sending somebody to give us a message or messages posted in many different places. The problem is we wait too long to get God involved and we are in a very bad place. When we are in that bad place we have given up and are just hanging on looking for a way out of the pain. It becomes the easiest way and plan our death.
We have lost our way with God by losing our faith and having lost our hope. When that happens, we believe there is nothing to live for. We are back when we did not know Jesus, we have slid that far back. My question to people is where is the Holy Spirit in the people who know Jesus? Have we completely lost the Holy Spirit? God’s word says he will not leave us or forsake us. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” This verse answers some questions that the LORD goes before us and will be with us, will not fail us nor forsake us. This is a statement by God we can stake our life on. We are not reading or studying the Bible or asking God questions to overcome, we are going on everything we know. What I have learned is when I do not know something I ask the Holy Spirit no matter what it is.
From what I have seen I get answers from the Holy Spirit at some point, it might be right then, it might be as I am looking up something else in the Bible, it might be from somebody else I know. Matthew 7:7-8 says, and this is Jesus’ speaking “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” All we must do is ask and God will reward us with wisdom or what we ask, that is simple so why don’t we? It falls on us not to want to change knowing what we want is right in front of us but not asking to change our relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Suicide happens because things happen to us where we do not know how to handle what we are up against. We need to look at all our options but let us start with Jesus. For a lot of people that does not happen that way because of their relationship with the Holy Spirit. I am trying to make us think what is best for each of us at least giving us the opportunity for wisdom from God. We need to trust and choose wisely. God Bless.
