If We Want to Change Somebody We Need to Change First—R Fritz

It seems we can see what somebody else is doing wrong but forget to look at ourselves. The truth is nobody is perfect except Jesus. Our attitude is wrong, instead of either looking past their mistakes or helping the person, we want to judge people. Matthew 7:1-2 says “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? It comes down to if you want to judge, we will be judged by the same measure we want to judge. The verse also talks about how we should judge ourselves first and look at our issues first before looking at somebody else. I see a lot of things going on in people’s lives, the Holy Spirit has shown me to be careful how I see things because I need to see spiritually to see what is really going on in people’s lives. The Holy Spirit has said to me unless I walk in their shoes how can I see what is going on in their life and judge. We are not the judge of people because opinions which when we do not have all the facts are of no value.

I look at things I see completely differently than most people because of what the Holy Spirit has said to me. The problem is most people do not have the same message I got about having to walk in somebody’s shoes first. The thing about getting all the truth should be what people want, people want to believe their eyes or what somebody else believes. It requires people to work to check out information and they are not going to do that because it being easier to listen to somebody else. I call checking things out doing the right thing, checking things out is what Jesus would do. We need to think things through before we speak or react. Opinions are our thoughts mixed with our truth. Truth comes from the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is truth. John 16:13-15 says, and this is Jesus speaking “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore, said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”  The Spirit of truth will show us things to come, it is up to us to ask the Holy Spirit about his truth. We need to show some initiative, show we want to learn and find out the truth instead of listening to somebody else and then believing what they say without checking out what they said is truth.

We need to know at some point we see conflicting opinions which we believe as truth, how do I know because that is what happened to me. At one point I had three different opinions what the Bible said confusing me. God is not the author of confusion. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” Confusion comes from Satan, the father of lies. It is God’s peace that tells us what is going on is not right. The Holy Spirit becomes our spirit where we feel something is wrong in what was said or what somebody is doing. It is a check in our spirit that says to us something is not righteous or against God’s ways. Without the Holy Spirit we go back to doing things with man’s wisdom what we did before we chose Jesus. We might think about our old life, so while we are thinking the Holy Spirit is going to change our prospective and give us reasons why we need to follow Jesus. In the end we will make that decision on what we want to do.

Our past wants to become part of our future because it is, if we do not deal with our past, it will rule us because it has. Our past needs to be dealt with head on, I had to deal with fear and understand it is my enemy. My enemy does not get a say in my life or control what I can do! We have slowly grown tolerant of behaviors and letting things become part of our life unknowingly. These issues we have given in to and believe everything we do is good. This is what happens when the Holy Spirit is not in control of us, being able to look at everything going on in our life. It is us asking the Holy Spirit if there is something not right in our life, I do it all the time. The next step is to ask the Holy Spirit to help me deal with that problem or issue. Why would we want to keep something that is not Godly in ourselves?

What I have found out in twenty plus years is yes, certain people need changing but I am usually not the correct person to do the changing that comes from God and starts inwardly. The inward part of our heart controls us and is how we will be judged. It controls us because that is where the Holy Spirit resides. That is why we will be judged by our heart and why we can change if we want to. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”  This is the true us in looking inwardly verses what we can hide outwardly. We have our ending place in our hands with our heart with the Holy Spirit being the judge, teacher, and spiritual leader.

Our answer to any question is inside us. It is called the Holy Spirit, even if the Holy Spirit does not give our answer to us, he will tell us where our answer is or who to see. I do not have all the answers, but I know who does, that is why I need to change and learn God’s ways. I see people that need to change but unless I am told to tell somebody, it is not my job, it falls on God and the Holy Spirit. We need to do exactly as we are told or are led because change is a continuing process. God Bless.
