We Need to Find God when we Need Him—R Fritz
It is up to us to spend the time to learn how to get our prayers answered. We must first believe that our prayers will be answered, or why are we praying? If we have a problem, we need to get around people to find out how other people have their prayers answered. We cannot do it ourselves; Satan wants to divide and conquer. Our pride keeps us in the same place doing what we have always done, where all we must do is ask the Holy Spirit. One of the things I did was hang around with people who had a relationship with the Holy Spirit and wanted to learn, so I did not want to miss anything, so I was the last person to go home. God’s people are not afraid to instruct people who are new to the Lord. We need to ask, listen, and spend our time collecting wisdom from people when the opportunity shows up. I have heard stories that people were giving up because they had no results, as the person who talked to them about Jesus did not teach or help them to get started. These people need to look for help. I went looking for God, and I found him because I was in a battle and needed answers; I was serious. If we are serious, we will find God; he will make sure we will not give up until we do. Jeremiah 29:11-13 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” This is the answer I was talking about where we searched for the LORD with all our hearts.
We must live a life pleasing to God. Living our life without God or not letting him be part of our life until Sunday when we go to church will not work as far as God is concerned because we are not seeking him, and you might say we do not need him, but that does not mean we cannot talk to him and build on our relationship. We do not know God because we do not understand that we can talk to him about anything. The Holy Spirit is an excellent listener. It is always about bringing the Holy Spirit into our life, so when an issue comes up, the Holy Spirit is heard to help us deal with it at the time it is happening instead of trying to fix it afterwards. I speak about this because I was asking the Holy Spirit what I should do, and when the answer came, I was thinking about what I should do. The Holy Spirit is answering people as we believe it is us who are answering ourselves. John 10:27 says, and this is Jesus speaking, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” We should know Jesus’s voice, but knowing his voice comes from having a relationship with the Holy Spirit and knowing his voice. I tell people to open the Bible and ask God to show who he is; I guarantee he will show us if we are serious. That would be seeking with all our heart.
God is a Spirit, and we must worship him in spirit. John 4:24 says, and this is Jesus speaking: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” We also have a spirit, and that is why our spirit should know the Holy Spirit. Even if the Holy Spirit does not live in us, the Holy Spirit comes upon people as in the Old Testament. With the Holy Spirit living in us, it is through our thoughts that we communicate. Understanding that concept will change our lives and the reason we say God does not speak to me or answer my prayers. I have seen the many ways God can communicate with us, yet we do not see it. I could understand seeing a bumper sticker or banner and wondering if what we read was for me; the next thing I would do is to ask God if that was from him. Let’s look at this a different way as that is what I do because God is spiritual, so we must learn to think differently than other people, and that is to believe the Holy Spirit knows what we need, and he will give it to us, and what I see is from him because we have become one spiritually and are looking after God’s plan for our life. Spending time with the Holy Spirit, or us being used to talking or helping somebody, has given me his understanding and the ability to think differently than most people. I do not know how many times I have thought about a situation and thought a way forward for somebody when I see God doing something completely different and, of course, many times better than what I thought. Isaiah 55:8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
The LORD is not going to leave or forsake us if we believe that where we walk the LORD will be. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” All we must do is to speak to the LORD and let him know what needs to be done. There is nothing too big or impossible for the LORD. It comes down to us and our ability to communicate with faith. If we do not change, how do we expect our lives to change?
