What are counterfeits? They are copies, forgeries, imposters, deceptive imitations passed off as genuine. We need to be careful in everything we do, buy, or who we listen to, counterfeits are all around us. How do we know if we have counterfeit items? We need to study or find an expert who knows the real thing. One of the counterfeit things that come to mind are gold and fool’s gold (iron pyrite), they look the same, but the value is significantly different and there are ways to check authenticity of both. One being using a magnet where iron pyrite being magnetic. We know how to check the difference between the two rocks, other counterfeits are not so easy.
God creates Satan counterfeits. Satan is the counterfeiter of God. Demons are the counterfeiters of angels. All counterfeits want control and absolute power through deceit and lies. 2 Corinthians 11:12-15 says “But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion (opportunity) from them which desire occasion (opportunity) that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” Satan can transform into an angel of light counterfeiting God who is light. Satan wants to believe we are talking to God but sometimes we are talking to Satan not knowing we are talking to the imposter.
Satan as the angel of light does good things to fool us into believing we are hearing God. 1 John 1:5-6 says “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: “God is light and Satan wants to be the counterfeiter to fool us, remember Satan uses deceit and lies because he is the father of lies. These are Satan’s character as well as darkness. When we are in darkness it implies sin as the light is signified as Jesus. John 8:12 says Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Satan will show his motives and what he is doing and who he is. If we are in a relationship with the Holy Spirit, he will show us the truth and the counterfeiter. We combat the counterfeiter through the Holy Spirit. We need to see in the Spirit to see the difference. Satan sometimes speaks out Bible verses that are not correct, missing words is another way to know Satan is speaking to us. The counterfeit spirit wanted to be above God, an angel named Lucifer, name meaning “morning star” in Hebrew. He was the most beautiful, most intelligent and the worship angel for God. He had everything but Lucifer wanted more as pride and greed showed up, he wanted all power. God cast him out of heaven with one-third of the angels and changed his name to Satan meaning “accuser.” Satan’s character changed that is why God changed his name. Satan is the accuser of mankind and goes to God to accuse us of our sins. Isaiah 14:12-15 says “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most high. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell to the sides of the pit.” It was not good enough to have everything but power and glory. Satan wanted to be in control of everything and Satan hates us because we are created in God’s image with the ability to be God’s son. Satan and the angels were never given that right.
We have to know our enemy and his fallen angels whose job is to make sure we will not make it to heaven because Satan has already been sentenced to hell and the “pit” with everlasting fire. Can Satan counterfeit God? The answer is no because God made everything including the angels. We let Satan try to counterfeit God because we do not know God, his character and who he is. Some will say that we know him. We know God through our eyes and ears and our understanding, the flesh. That is how Satan can counterfeit God through manipulating us using our feelings, the issues that we have fought through in our life or our personality. I say these things because I was on the side of a mountain 13000 ft up and Satan was manipulating my sight and my depth perception. Satan said to me “you are not going up or going down.” My answer to Satan “Shut up I am going to the top of the mountain.”
The answer is to use our spiritual tools especially asking for God’s wisdom and understanding. James 1:5-7 says “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth (blame) not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For him that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” We need to ask God with the belief he will give us the wisdom we have asked for. If we have unbelief, we will not receive any. God’s wisdom comes through the Holy Spirit. We have to ask the Holy Spirit to help in our situation if we are expecting him to help, he helps when we ask for help, it is not automatic. It is us giving our permission for God to get involved. It is a prayer or a conversation speaking to God through the Holy Spirit getting our marching orders he has for us every day.
The counterfeits are the spirits that are aligned with Satan. Without the Holy Spirit we end up doing things that are not from God. Things that look good on the surface but do not follow God’s plan in our life. Decisions we make that will put us on the path down that narrow road leading to eternal life. Caution should be used every day with us looking at our decisions making sure we are hearing the true God and not an imposter. God Bless.
