What are You Hunting for in Life and How do You Expect it to Happen—R Fritz

What makes each one of us want a certain life or lifestyle? Is it our upbringing or an attitude we have gained from life and overcoming our own childhood? Whatever it is for us it is the reason we do what we do and how we go about trying to accomplice our goals. What I have seen is with us trying to do our life our way, it can work for a time if we are willing to change as we go. There are those that can do that but few and eventually we feel we are missing something in our life, that being Jesus. Those that choose Jesus Christ and obey have the Holy Spirit that gives us our edge to be able to get us to where we need to be. If I would have known about Jesus and the results of choosing him, I certainly would have chosen him years before I did. The “change” word was one word I did not like nor was willing to embrace. It required me to do something I did not want to do. Romans 12:2 says “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” We are not supposed to do what this world wants us to do but to renew our minds in Jesus.

Renewing our mind is changing our thinking, it is looking through the lens of God’s word and listening to the Holy Spirit rather than through the lens of our experiences, life’s trauma, our preferences, or opinions of others. When we do not know for sure we hunt for others to find their opinion or what we think is a correct answer instead of going to the Holy Spirit. It is believing in something with us looking for the truth and letting it take us to the Bible where the answer is, not depending on somebody else for their truth. When we start to look in the Bible for God’s truth the Holy Spirit will show us more than we are looking for. I say that because that is what happens to me. Romans 8:5-6 says “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity (hostile) against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” This explains why the carnal mind does not connect with God because the carnal mind and the spiritual mind are opposites.

For the last six days, I have been hunting pheasants. I have always said when we are doing what we like or are on vacation God gets involved. In my case, it was many teaching moments using what I was doing to teach me about life. God’s first teaching moment was the daily limit for pheasants was six which does not sound like much but with birds getting up at thirty or forty at one time far in front of the dog and not getting a shot sometimes is discouraging. The Holy Spirit showed me that all I needed was one or two at each spot I stopped at and out of the thirty of forty, I saw one or two would sit tight and my dog would get these birds up close to me and my hunting partner to shoot. This also pertained to my life when I talk to people about God or in jobs where we have to call people in the same manner where some will listen and some will run away. The majority will leave but there will be one or two that will listen to our message and God will speak to them.

The next lesson was I was trying to pick what I thought were the best spots where pheasants were because of less walking and good cover I thought would give good results. I chose to listen to my hunting partner because the Holy Spirit was leading me. It was a three-mile trek around this field but on our way, we got our limit for the day. I have fifty years of pheasant hunting experience so I think I know better but am always listening to the Holy Spirit. The results showed that I am willing to change even when God uses somebody else to get my attention. God talks about having ears to hear three times in the New Testament. Matthew 13:43 says “Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who have ears to hear, let him hear.” It is the Holy Spirit that gives us ears to hear. We hear spiritually what the wisdom of the Holy Spirit speaks and we are to recognize the voice of truth.

The next lesson was where I was hunting, the area had an ice storm and every blade of grass was half an inch around in the ice and the cattails were almost the size of popsicles. My hunting partner and I first started to walk through this and we said to each other this is not going to work. We went to the other side of this land and drove down next to some bushes and thirty or forty birds got up. We saw what we needed to do. It was to fight through this ice to get where the birds were. Just like the Holy Spirit said to me that to believe we would get one or two birds at every area we went to. It was better than what I was told. We got two at one place and four at the other, our daily limit. The dogs had to work extra hard. We saw nobody else out hunting. We do not do what the world does or what our eyes see nor what our senses believe, we do what the Holy Spirit says and got our daily limit again. We need to do the opposite of what the masses do or what the majority of people do. They are not hearing from the Holy Spirit.

The blessing was not just handed to us it was given because I was faithful and listened and chose to obey exactly what the Holy Spirit told me. I had second thoughts about what I heard just like everybody else in life but I trusted in God. My hunting partner does not have a relationship with Jesus like mine but because he was with me, he got the blessing with me. That is what happens to people that choose to hang around God’s people until their faith and belief are raised to a higher level. One of my dogs did eighty-four thousand steps compared to my sixteen thousand steps or almost eight miles for me one day. God also put my dogs in the right place for the blessing to come about.

When we choose Jesus, our belief level, our relationship with the Holy Spirit and the road we go down gets us to the point we are at now. Change is our friend and sometimes we need to make choices immediately to change the direction we are going. It is all on us to choose but we do not have to do it ourselves if we know the Holy Spirit and obey what we are told.

Remember “GOD IS IN CONTROL” and knows what is best for us. We need to keep pushing for God’s truth and getting God’s knowledge to become who God meant for us to be. God Bless.
