Why do We Need to be in Control—R Fritz
As children we are not taught to be in control, we are to follow what our parents say. The older we got we started to see we could have a say in what we were doing. As children and then teenagers we start to push the rules as much as possible to get as much control as we can. We start to rebel against our parents and a desire for control. That is not a God-taught trait we have learned, that is a strong-willed child. Proverbs 22:6 tells us “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” We should be taught God’s word as children and taught God is in control. That is understanding who God is and a respect for him. It is a learning of God’s way and rules are made for a reason. It is also where we learn to be submissive and who is in control. Parents need to show their children that they can have a say in some things. We were given God’s rules to make life better and to show through God’s love that rules keep us safe.
It comes back to our childhood and if we were taught what the Bible says in Ephesians 6:1-4, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but bring them up in the nurture and admonition (gentle reproof) of the Lord.” We need to know how to treat our children as we show them respect with love. It is knowing our children’s personalities to know how to show them God is in control as we hear the Holy Spirit, and our children see us obeying God and doing the right thing.
We must remember that many people did not grow up in a home with any Bible reading and teaching. We might have gone to church and to Sunday school, but our families did not teach us, we left the church. Because we were not taught God’s principles where God is in control, we automatically did our own thing and learned to control our lives. Where did the need for control come from? It came from Lucifer, God’s angel, a guardian cherub. Lucifer thought he was greater than God, where the sin of pride showed up. The result was God could not have sin in his presence God judged Lucifer’s heart in Isaiah 14:13-14 which says “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” Lucifer was removed from heaven and his name changed to Satan meaning adversary, which became our adversary. Satan wanted to be in control and above God who was made by God.
We chose to be in control of our lives before we knew God because we did not know any other way. We have a choice in the Holy Spirit to do it our way and use our wisdom or follow the Holy Spirit and God’s wisdom. What we do not understand is we have people who think they can control other people’s life the Bible nor God gave that right to man. When the Holy Spirit gets somebody to give a message or a Bible verse to somebody there is no need to try to control the situation, that is not our job, God is in control. 1 Corinthians 3:6-8 says “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.” Let us do what we are called to do and let God do what he does, the two things that change a situation are God’s truth and his love.
When we do something that God has not ordained, we are disobedient and there could be consequences. God does not force anybody to do anything, he is patient with us to a point. The Holy Spirit lives in us but does not control us. Satan and his spirits are those who want to control us. The things that Satan wants to control are our thoughts, through controlling our thoughts Satan wants to control our body and our actions. If we understand what Satan wants to do with us, we know who is pushing us. John 10:10 says and this is Jesus speaking “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” We should know Satan’s character and what he wants for us. Jesus talks about himself and his character and what he will do for us.
Control was not something brought in by God. It was something where we did not trust God. It gets down to our relationship with the Holy Spirit and people. If we can control all situations and people, we probably do not need God but that is not the case. God is in control and everybody that knows him knows the truth. We should know where we belong, which is to speak the truth to people, pray, and leave the rest to the Holy Spirit. Sometimes people are looking for answers to their problems and if we have answers we should give them but if they do not use them that is okay, remember the Holy Spirit will bring what we say back to that person where that person has a chance to use our suggestion. If I have a problem with somebody and have said something to them my prayer is for God to deal with them and to take care of their issues.
We must remember God is in control and believe he can change any situation. If the Holy Spirit gives us a message to give to somebody, give it and expect the result will be better than our expectation. God Bless.
