We Need to look at our Future Instead of in the Rearview Mirror—R Fritz
Looking at our past does not make our future. With the Holy Spirit our past does not mean our future will be the same, it means our future will be different if we choose to listen to the Holy Spirit. The reason we look in the rearview mirror is because Satan keeps pushing our past in our face after we keep seeing it, we believe our past is the best we can do. It is us believing what we see instead of what God keeps telling us. We need to look in the Spirit to see who we can become, instead of who we see as we look at with our regular eyes. God has a plan for everybody, but we are looking at our plan and do not trust God. We do not trust God because we do not know him, that is on us.
People look at their past because that is what we know. It is easy to find some of the things that worked for us or take a chance on some of the things that did not work then to see if they will work now. We do that because we are living on our own. The Holy Spirit does not live in the past, it works in the present or future. We cannot go back to change anything in our past, so why should we go there? We are comfortable with the past because there is nothing that needs to be taken care of. It is in our past for a reason, but we still want to bring it to the present. Satan wants us to live in the past and that is what he does except Satan wants to bring our past into our future. Satan brings fear into our life and fear is us believing what Satan says as fear tries to change our future. Fear is bringing in our past thoughts about a situation and projecting those thoughts to become our future. It comes as worry or anxiety to some people where it can stop people from even living life the way God meant for us to live. Fear stops us from being on time and doing what God asks us to do. Fear had a control over my life for the first fifty years of my life and I overcame it through Bible verses. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Fear changes our perspective where we believe what we see where love comes from God to keep us to obey the Holy Spirit. Fear is a spirit Satan uses to stop us. John 10:10 says and this is Jesus’ speaking “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and they might have it more abundantly.” The Holy Spirit is the answer because it gives us power, love and gives us a sound mind. The thief (Satan) has one role to steal, kill and destroy, it is his nature and who he is. It is us knowing our enemy and his character because Satan plays for keeps as we also need to remember because we give Satan the power to affect us. With the Holy Spirit we are reminded what the truth is and can overcome the lies.
Fear cannot thrive if faith is allowed to flourish. It is about keeping our thoughts in line with God’s character and what the Bible has showed us. It is our failures Satan wants us to show us over and over. The Holy Spirit on the other hand shows us we are an overcomer, and He will be the tool to win any battle. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” We must diligently seek him so why do we wonder why things do not go our way? We are responsible for what we do and speak. If we want to know God through the Holy Spirit, we must do something to find him, God is not hiding so why cannot find him. God as the Holy Spirit is in us all we must do is speak to him that is how easy it is.
Today is Father’s Day, let us honor our earthly father as well as our heavenly Father. Whether our earthly father has been the person we think we should honor, our heavenly Father is a different story. If we do not have a relationship with our earthly father, we can have a relationship with our heavenly Father. Our heavenly Father will show how we need to treat all people. God’s love will change our life. It is a day when we could learn how our God has taken care of his people. Our heavenly Father has given us hope, grace, mercy and forgiveness, words that mean something but also are action words that the Father uses and are a part of God. We also need these words because they are action words that will change our life. Romans 15:13 says “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
The verse above is a prayer I would like to give to everyone to live in the present with goals for the future. Let God’s hope take us through the issues we go through with the Holy Spirit guiding us to become who we were meant to be. Happy Father’s Day. God Bless.
