We are the Temple for the Holy Spirit—R Fritz

God has chosen us (our body) to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are the container for the Holy Spirit as the Holy Spirit lives in us. God is with us no matter where we go, and we do not have to go to a particular building or church for the Holy Spirit to show up. That also means we have all the answers inside of us, we just need to ask. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which is God’s.” When the Holy Spirit lives inside us the body and spirit become God’s. So instead of going to the temple (building) we go out to the temple and take God’s presence to the world. We have our ministry in us where the Holy Spirit can do exactly as Jesus did.

What we might not understand is that the Holy Spirit that was there after Jesus died is the same Holy Spirit that exists today. What that says is what happened over two thousand years ago can happen today if we sell out and surrender as the apostles and followers of Jesus did. The Holy Spirit of old is the Holy Spirit of new, God has not changed. Hebrews 13:7-8 says “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” God has not changed, his character, his love, or his commandments, nothing has changed. We should believe we can do anything because when we believe in the Holy Spirit our attitude changes because we are confident about our life even when things do not go well because we understand who lives inside us.

The Holy Spirit came after Jesus died and is the Spirit of truth to show us all truth, where God would always be part of us as we learn who the Holy Spirit is. It requires us to have a relationship with God through his Spirit we just need to ask questions to start the relationship and to be in a mode of change and to learn the ways of God with us giving up our free will and letting the Holy Spirit be our guide through life. The Holy Spirit teaches us how to fight in the spirit which is where we need to fight because our battles are with spirits. The thing that makes us different is when God gives us his understanding where we know what the Bible says according to God. We learn this through studying the Bible where the Holy Spirit guides us to all truth. John 16:13-15 says, and this is Jesus speaking “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore, said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. A little while, and ye shall not see me, because I go to the Father.”  Jesus is speaking about what will happen when he dies and the Holy Spirit comes and the things that the Holy Spirit shall do. These words were spoken to the disciples by Jesus about the things to come.

Jesus also told the Jews about what was going to happen and the Jews thought Jesus was talking about the building (temple) instead Jesus was talking about himself and was to come. John 2:18-22 says “Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.”  Jesus let those around him know the truth and only his disciples believed what was said at that time. Those who study the Bible now know the truth that what Jesus said became history. Jesus was saying he would take the place of the temple and come back after death in three days, and the Spirit of God would dwell, and that temple (building) would not be needed.

Those who now know our body is the temple have a responsibility to keep our body holy. Our body should conform to the teachings of Jesus. Does that mean we eat or drink bad things or abuse our bodies? That answer should be no as we are responsible for what we do with consequences for our decisions. Decisions are made every day about what we do physically. Sometimes things happen to people beyond our control. Our decisions should be guided by the Holy Spirit who knows all things as he resides in us, and we can ask any question we would want the answer to. We need to remember we are the temple for the Holy Spirit which will make us think about our body and keep our body holy. The Holy Spirit has answers for all things going on in our lives including having fun. We need to live our lives to the fullest with the Holy Spirit leading us in all aspects of our lives. God Bless.
