What does Our Character say about Ourselves-R Fritz

What should our character look like? Our character should be a reflection of Jesus in our life. Character is defined by the strength of our moral fiber. A person’s character is the total of the traits we believe such as honesty, ethics, and a giving heart. They move us into doing the right thing or our belief in what is right. Our choices dictate and develop our character. Each day our life and the trials we go through either develop our character in a righteous way or cause us to regret life and our path. Our trials and tribulations build our character! Romans 5:1-5 says “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience (character); and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

Tribulations are learning experiences for us. If we do not learn from tribulation, we will receive more until we learn from what we have been through. This is not necessarily punishment; it is us learning the truth. It is also our remembrance of our experience through the Holy Spirit. We trust ourselves if we are trying to remember all our experiences and the lessons learned. If you are in sync with the Holy Spirit, he will remind us of our past as we go. John 14:26 says “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” The Holy Ghost will bring back things spoken from our past because our teacher will not let us fail if we listen and obey.

Our character traits at one part of our life can and should change with the choice of Jesus and following him. That is because we start to understand and see things differently through the constant change that happens in our heart and to start to know the truth through reading and studying the Bible. If we are not studying or reading, we depend on somebody else to feed us the truth. We tend to believe people, then we hear the same thing from somebody else then because we hear it from somebody else, we believe that it has to be the truth, yet it could be somebody’s opinion passed on. We need to sit down with these people and study it out asking the Holy Spirit where the truth is in the Bible. The truth comes to us through the Holy Spirit where the words in the Bible come alive and stick out to our eyes. What is amazing to me is while I am looking for something I am writing about for the current blog I find the answers to questions I have asked in the past. That is why I say if we are seriously wanting to find the truth, I guarantee we will find it. Proverbs 8:17 says “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early (diligently) shall find me.” This is what God is speaking.

God is truth, his word is truth, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, so truth should matter to us. The place to look for truth is in the Bible or from the Spirit of truth. There are people who know the truth, but we have to make sure what we hear is the truth. I always ask the Holy Spirit when I hear something if it is truth. The thing to remember is God sends people to give us a message. We have to discern what is going on in our situation.

Discerning is a spiritual gift given to us by God. Discernment is the ability to see with God’s wisdom understanding and distinguishing between truth, good, evil and the ability to see God’s character and will, seeing and knowing the counterfeit spirit (Satan) from the (Holy Spirit). We need to work with the Holy Spirit to use that gift efficiently. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 says “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophesy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.” Each of the gifts is given through the Holy Spirit. The spiritual gifts require us to communicate and have a relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Our character should be a building project for each of us, without knowing Jesus it is a project that requires us to get information. If we think we know Jesus without investigating who he is we will fall short on our wisdom and understanding because God’s ways are not our ways. How can we know God through the Holy Spirit if we do not know the Holy Spirit, our teacher who knows all. Our trials build us to be who God wants us to be, character building. God Bless!
