Truth vs Reality—R Fritz
When we look at truth and reality, they are not both the same. Truth is God’s truth not what we think is truth. God’s truth is the Bible which is God’s word. John 1:1-3 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” The Bible is truth because it is God who is truth. We think we know the truth and some things we know when we investigate them. Automatically believing somebody does not make it truth because it sounds right no matter who this person is. Years ago people would tell me things about the Bible but they were not the same. What it did was to confuse me because I did not know which person was right until I asked God to help me investigate the Bible and asked for God’s understanding. The thing I was missing was confidence which I did not have because people were giving the truth which they believed. Do not get me wrong because people were trying to help me but when we are wrong or do not know for sure, we need be careful with people because that verse or verses does not give them confidence without God’s truth.
Without the Holy Spirit giving us God’s understanding we are giving our own interpretation of the Bible as well as life. Does that sound like the truth? It does not to me. That is the problem with different interpretations, everybody cannot be right. What I have learned is if we keep pushing the Holy Spirit for wisdom, he keeps dishing it out. It is about whether we keep obeying and changing as we see God’s wisdom given to us. I am speaking of my experiences and how differently I see things as God takes me through different situations with bringing in verses from the Bible. The last six months have changed my thought process immensely. We must be a willing participant for the Holy Spirit to use us to help people and hear his advice spiritually. People ask me how the Holy Spirit speaks to me. It is through our thoughts as I am talking, I get wisdom as I am focused on him on all parts of my life. What I have learned is to thank God for what he gives me. I was talking to somebody yesterday about the car accident they were in a few years ago, and they told me they should have died and almost did. They have seen God working in their life and have thanked God for what has happened after their accident and believes God has a plan for their life. I agree one hundred percent that if God has a plan for us, he will keep using us to show God’s love, grace, and mercy. You would be surprised when we talk about what we see God doing in our life where people will share things they have seen or things that have happened in their life that they have not shared with anybody else.
We were all handed a different set of cards to play. The first thing we need to do is find the truth. Sometimes God sends people to give us truth, sometimes it is people that live with us or a stranger or sometimes people who do not know God. The problem is we want to judge people without asking God or discerning spiritually what was said. What I have done is keep what was said until I can find out the truth. God can answer us at any time. John 10:27-28, 30 says with Jesus’ speaking “But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. I and my Father are one.” God knows his people and sees all. We still need a relationship with God which means we speak and ask questions of him. It is a back and forth between the Holy Spirit and us as we would with any person.
Reality is what we see happening around us, it could and probably is different to what I see as reality. What we see as truth could also be different if we accept what people say as truth without checking things out. That truth that was accepted as truth but not investigated will become our reality or real to us. God’s truth with what he shows us (spiritual) reality is different as we see more than what we see or what we perceive. I hear people talk about living in the real world as millionaires have a different reality than the average person. The real world to us is where we are located and live and how much money we make, that is what makes a difference to us and our reality.
Our truth if not also God’s truth will keep us where we are, it will not change us to know who God really is. We will not move on to what God has for us if we are comfortable, that is why our life changes whether we like it or not and becomes uncomfortable. Instead of reverting back to God and Jesus we turn to alcohol, drugs, or anything to take our pain whether it is physical or mental where this becomes our reality. Revelation 3:17-20 says, and this is Jesus’ speaking “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” We will be tried as gold to change because we choose not to. As what happens to gold happens to us as God burns off the sin and what we do not need in our character. As God turns the fire up on us, we must make a choice of choosing Jesus.
We are looking for comfort through material things and if that’s where we stay, we will never find it. This is where Jesus showed up with his love, grace, and mercy to show a better way. God’s Truth will show how to get some comfort but we need God to show us what is real, spiritual as God sees it and puts it on our heart. God Bless.
